Exploring Progreso, located on the beautiful Yucatán Peninsula, offers a perfect mix of history, nature, and relaxation for any cruise traveler. During our recent Disney Cruise Line adventure, we had the chance to experience some of Progreso’s hidden gems, from ancient ruins to stunning beaches. Here’s a look at our unforgettable day in this charming port town!

Xcambo: A Glimpse Into the Past 🏛️
Our first stop on the tour was Xcambo, a fascinating Mayan archaeological site. This hidden gem is off the beaten path, offering a serene and less crowded experience than other historical ruins in the region. Xcambo was once a thriving salt production center for the ancient Mayans, and walking through its ruins, we could almost hear the echoes of its rich past. We explored the remains of temples, palaces, and salt flats while learning about the Mayan civilization and its connection to the sea. Click Here to learn more about Xcambo!
Though we had originally planned to visit the Ake Ruins and go cave tubing, our schedule was adjusted due to weather conditions, resulting in a late arrival at port. But Xcambo offered the perfect alternative, giving us a fascinating glimpse into the region’s history.
The Corona Beach Break: A Day in Paradise 🌴
After immersing ourselves in history, it was time to unwind at the stunning Corona Beach. This was the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the stunning natural beauty of Progreso. We kicked off our beach break with a delicious lunch at a beachfront restaurant, where we dined with the ocean breeze in our hair and the sound of waves crashing in the background. The restaurant offered a variety of traditional Mexican dishes, all fresh and flavorful—nothing beats eating by the sea!
Once we were fueled up, we made our way to the beach, where the warm turquoise waters beckoned. Whether you’re into lounging under the sun, taking a dip in the refreshing water, or strolling along the shore, Corona Beach offers the ideal setting for relaxation.
